Governor's Road Improvement Program
GOVERNOR'S ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
In the 1980's the State of Georgia initiated a program called the Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP).
This program was mandated by law (Georgia Code, Section 32-4-22 G) to widen two-lane roads and attract
economic development by improving the state's highway network.
Some of these highways (upon completion) will bear new 500-series Georgia State Route designations
in addition to whatever existing U.S. highway numbers that they may have.
